Shadow comes from Canada and is a cousin to our Caleb, their fathers are half brothers.
We bought Shadow together with Petra of Hearts of Destiny and Nadine of Just Gorgeous Minis, but his home was here with us for the first 15 months. After he had passed his companion dog test and got his breeding license in September 2020, he move to Kate from our B-litter (2013) near Aschaffenburg. Lisa-Marie might train him to become a therapy dog for the kindergarden and will do Agility with him. You can follow Shadow on Instagram and Facebook to see how he's doing at his noe forever home.
His eye examination in Canada was normal, so we imported him, but because we were sceptical we had his eyes checked again here in Germany, with the result that he has an iris hypoplasia. This is a thinning of the iris tissue which has no negative effects on his vision or his health and is common in merles. It's assumed to develop during the embryonic development, so it is not necessarily genetic. Shadow's first litter of 6 puppies (3 merles, 3 solids) passed their eye exman with flying color, which made us very happy, because he did not pass the iris hypoplasia on to his puppies. All of Shadow's health tests are excellent, his character is simply amazing and his colors are beautiful.
Nonetheless, his character and anatomy are fantastic. His structure and movement have been dreamlike from an early age. He is not sensitive to noises, neither on New Year's Eve, nor to any other sounds or noises, he doesn't have a hunting instinct, is not greedy nor does he have any intolerances to food. He loves water and is extremely social.
Shady has an incredibly outgoing personality, he's unafraid, cheerful and at the same time pleasantly calm. Like Caleb, he is absolutely fond of children (although he was "childless" both in Canada and here with us) and loves every stranger and animal. He is just as sociable, deeply relaxed, and easy going no matter where you take him or what a hustle and bustle there is – Shadow is neither nervous nor insecure, he remains cool and at the same time hopeful to be petted by someone. The only big difference between the two cousins is that Shadow is much more clever and playful, has more will-to-please and is more active and enthusiastic when you work/train with him. His obedience and reaction time are absolutely incredible! He would have been able to pass his companion dod test with flying colors at only 9 months old!
Shadow always behaves in an exemplary manner and also doesn't do anything stupid when he has to stay home alone. You never have to advise him to be nice or rant at him because he is always a good boy and follows you as natrural as a shadow.
Also strange dogs that are nervous, barking, or even mean to other dogs, leave Shadow cold. The only thing he does in such situations is looking blank, because he can't understand why they are misbehaving. Insecure dogs that are anxious relax very quick due to Shadow's positive and calm nature and even start playing with him. If he meets a dominant or territorial dog, Shadow bows to him on its own and shows him that he just wants to play.
"Shades" is a great dog that is always in a good mood and up for fun, but he can also cuddle with you all day long – he is incredibly cuddly, always seeks physical contact and loves bringing gifts and press it into one's face.
